The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) Inspector Siddharth Jain in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch in connection with an alleged Rs 50 lakh bribe linked to a drug seizure case.
The arrest followed a late-night search at Jain’s official residence in the CBN colony, where CBI officials examined official documents, financial records and electronic devices as part of the investigation.
The probe is focused on allegations that a bribe was sought or transferred in connection with the handling of a drug seizure. The CBI is examining the alleged transaction, its financial trail and the circumstances surrounding it to determine whether other individuals were also involved.
During the search, investigators scrutinised seizure records, official documents and bank transaction details. Mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices were also examined as the agency sought to establish the sequence of events and trace the suspected money trail.
The CBI is also looking into information that the alleged bribe amount may have been routed through the bank account of a close relative of Jain rather than being transferred directly to him.
Following his arrest, Jain was taken to Neemuch Cantt police station and later produced before a local court.
The agency is separately examining the alleged recovery of Rs 4 lakh in connection with the case. However, the precise circumstances of the recovery and its exact link, if any, to the alleged Rs 50 lakh transaction have not been officially disclosed.
The case has raised concerns within the CBN department as the CBI investigates whether the alleged transaction involved only the arrested inspector or other persons as well.
A video purportedly showing Jain being taken away by CBI officials during the investigation also surfaced, in which he could be seen attempting to cover his face.
