A 31-year-old software engineer allegedly died after being assaulted by his wife’s relatives following a domestic dispute at his residence in Delhi’s Nihal Vihar area, police said.
The deceased was identified as Vinay Gupta, a resident of Laxmi Park who worked as a software engineer with Adobe in Noida. He had been married to his 31-year-old homemaker wife for around three-and-a-half years. The couple have four-and-a-half-month-old twin children, a son and a daughter.
According to Gupta’s family, an argument broke out between the couple on Saturday morning over a matrimonial issue. His wife allegedly contacted members of her parental family, who subsequently arrived at the residence.
The family alleged that Gupta was then attacked and severely beaten by his wife’s relatives. His mother claimed that she had briefly stepped out to arrange water and refreshments for the visitors and, on returning, found her son being assaulted.
She allegedly attempted to intervene and sought help, but the assault continued, according to the family.
Gupta was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
His family alleged that the couple had been experiencing disagreements over minor issues for some time but that they had hoped the matter could be resolved amicably. They have accused Gupta’s wife and six to seven other people of involvement in the alleged assault.
Police have launched an investigation, and a forensic team inspected the residence and collected evidence. Four people have been identified and detained in connection with the case.
A case is being registered under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are examining the sequence of events and the alleged role of each person involved.
Further investigation is underway.
