Two people were killed and several others seriously injured after a reactor exploded and triggered a fire at a pharmaceutical unit in Telangana’s Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, officials said on Saturday.
The incident occurred late Friday night at Hazelo Lab Private Limited, a pharmaceutical unit near Dothigudem in Pochampally mandal, while workers were changing shifts, police said.
“A tragic industrial accident occurred late on Friday night at Hazelo Lab Private Limited, a pharma unit near Dothigudem in Pochampally mandal. A reactor explosion resulted in the deaths of two employees and left several others injured,” an official said.
Following the incident, police, fire personnel and rescue teams reached the facility and began relief operations. Workers were rescued from the premises and those injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Two of the workers were subsequently declared dead by doctors.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control, while police registered a case and launched an investigation.
The exact cause of the reactor blast remains unknown. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and investigating whether any technical fault or other factor led to the explosion.
In a separate industrial accident in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district, three engineers were killed and another person was injured following a blast at a sponge-iron factory late Friday night.
The explosion occurred at Maa Chhinnamastika Cement and Ispat Private Limited in Hehal under Patratu block during production work at the plant’s power-generation site, officials said.
The blast triggered panic among workers on the night shift. Police and fire personnel reached the factory and rescued workers, while those injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
Factory management has indicated that overheating at the plant may have caused the explosion. Authorities are investigating the incident and further details are awaited.
