Rajasthan: Four of family killed after speeding SUV hits them; highway blocked

Jaipur, August 22, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Four members of a family, including a couple and their two daughters-in-law, were killed after a speeding SUV hit them in Rajasthan’s Jaipur district on Friday evening, triggering protests and a blockade on the Jaipur-Bhilwara Mega Highway.

The accident occurred around 7.30 p.m. on Madhorajpura Road, about three kilometres from Phagi, along the Sarmathura-Phalodi Mega Highway.

According to police, 60-year-old Satyanarayan Kumhar, a resident of Dhamuniyon ka Mohalla in Phagi, was drying bundles of moong harvested from his farm by the roadside. His wife and two daughters-in-law were assisting him when the speeding SUV struck all four.

The impact reportedly threw the victims around 20 feet from the collision point. Police identified the deceased as Satyanarayan, his 55-year-old wife Manmauj, 30-year-old Amrita, wife of Badri, and 25-year-old Shimla, wife of Suresh. All four died at the spot.

Police shifted the bodies to the mortuary of Phagi Sub-District Hospital. As news of the deaths spread, villagers gathered outside the hospital and demanded compensation for the bereaved family.

The protesters later blocked the Jaipur-Bhilwara Mega Highway and staged a sit-in, causing traffic to pile up on both sides of the road.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Anil Doriya and Station House Officer Pushpendra Bansiwal reached the spot with police personnel and attempted to pacify the protesters. Additional Superintendent of Police Shivlal Bairwa and Sub-Divisional Officer Balbir Singh also arrived around 10 p.m. and held discussions with the villagers.

Following the talks, the situation was brought under control.

The tragedy has left the families devastated. Amrita is survived by her 15-year-old daughter Priyanka and 13-year-old son Himanshu. The family had earlier lost another five-year-old son in a road accident.

Shimla, a trained nurse, is survived by her eight-month-old daughter, Vanshika. Her husband, Suresh, works with a jewellery company in Jaipur.

Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa expressed condolences and said he had directed officials to provide all possible assistance to the affected family.
