JKNC Blames Mehbooba Mufti for BJP-PDP Alliance, Says It Led to Article 370 Abrogation

Srinagar, August 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Monday hit back at former Chief Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti over her description of herself as a “dimagi Naxal”, arguing that her own party’s alliance with the BJP paved the way for the political developments that culminated in the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

Mehbooba Mufti had said she considered herself a “dimagi Naxal” because of her continued support for Article 370 and opposition to its abrogation.

Responding to the remark, JKNC Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq said the PDP had been warned against forming a government with the BJP following the 2014 Assembly elections because the BJP’s manifesto included the abrogation of Article 370.

Sadiq recalled that then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had offered the PDP “unconditional support” and urged it not to bring the BJP into government in Jammu and Kashmir.

Despite the warning, the PDP formed a coalition government with the BJP.

Speaking to IANS, Sadiq said the political developments of 2019 were a consequence of that alliance and claimed that the abrogation of Article 370 would not have occurred had the PDP not joined hands with the BJP.

“A Chief Minister or a former Chief Minister, if she uses something that she is herself responsible for, it sounds very amusing,” Sadiq said, referring to Mehbooba Mufti’s remarks.

He further alleged that Mehbooba Mufti was the “first person responsible for 2019”, describing her criticism as “crocodile tears”.

The controversy over the expression “dimagi Naxal” followed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Independence Day address, in which he said that although India had made significant progress in tackling armed Naxalism, a more subtle form of the ideology remained a challenge.
