India and Bhutan on Thursday reviewed the progress of several India-supported development projects during the 5th India-Bhutan Development Cooperation Talks held in Thimphu, reaffirming their close partnership across key sectors.
The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Bhutan’s Foreign Secretary Dasho Pema Lektup Dorji. The discussions focused on the implementation of projects under Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan, covering multiple areas of development.
According to the Embassy of India in Bhutan, the Bhutanese side appreciated India’s continued support and its contribution to the country’s socio-economic development.
During the visit, the two Foreign Secretaries virtually inaugurated the Thimphu Ecological Park and Olakha Park, developed under the Project Tied Assistance (PTA) initiative for Green Infrastructure and Open Spaces in Thimphu.
The two sides also exchanged an agreement for a concessional line of credit worth INR/Nu. 40 billion (Rs 4,000 crore) between the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank) and Bhutan’s Ministry of Finance.
In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), India, and Bhutan’s Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences (KGUMSB) to promote cooperation in health education and research.
As part of India’s support for Bhutan’s sustainable mobility initiatives, Foreign Secretary Misri also handed over 45 electric vehicles (EVs) to the Royal Government of Bhutan.
India and Bhutan share longstanding diplomatic and developmental ties, with New Delhi continuing to support infrastructure, healthcare, education and connectivity projects in the Himalayan nation.
