Punjab FC have strengthened their squad ahead of the 2026-27 Indian Super League (ISL) season by signing forward Gurkirat Singh and defender Nishchal Chandan on two-year contracts.
The club confirmed that both players will remain with the Shers until May 31, 2028, as it continues to reinforce its squad for the upcoming campaign.
Gurkirat Singh joins Punjab FC to add pace, creativity and versatility to the attacking line. The Chandigarh-born forward began his senior career with Indian Arrows in the I-League, making 18 appearances and scoring once between 2018 and 2021.
He later represented Mumbai City FC from 2021 to 2024, gaining experience in both the ISL and the AFC Champions League, where he scored one goal in 28 appearances. Most recently, Gurkirat played for Chennaiyin FC during the 2024-26 seasons, featuring in 15 matches.
Expressing his excitement after completing the move, Gurkirat said he was delighted to join an ambitious club that has shown remarkable progress since earning promotion to the ISL. He added that he looked forward to contributing to the team’s success and giving his best for the supporters over the next two seasons.
Punjab FC have also reinforced their defence with the return of Chandigarh-born centre-back Nishchal Chandan. A product of the Minerva Academy, Nishchal won the U-18 I-League North Zone Championship before making his senior debut for Punjab FC in the I-League Second Division during the 2020-21 season.
He subsequently captained Sudeva Delhi FC in the I-League before joining Churchill Brothers, where he established himself as a regular in defence with 19 appearances and a goal. During the 2025-26 season, he represented Inter Kashi, making nine appearances before returning to Punjab FC.
Speaking after signing his contract, Nishchal said he was proud to rejoin a club with a clear vision and ambitious plans. He said he was eager to work hard during pre-season, connect with the fans and contribute to the team’s success with strong defensive performances.
The two signings underline Punjab FC’s intent to build a competitive squad as the club prepares for the new ISL season.
