India’s women’s pairs lawn bowls team of Rupa Rani Tirkey and Pinki continued their unbeaten run at the Commonwealth Games 2026, edging past Tonga in a tense tiebreak to register their third consecutive victory in the sectional stage on Saturday.
The Indian duo defeated Tonga’s Paris Baker and Milika Nathan after a closely contested match that went the distance.
India recovered from conceding the opening end to level the first set at 1-1 before taking control and clinching it 5-2 through consistent teamwork and accurate deliveries.
Tonga fought back strongly in the second set, surging to a 6-0 lead after the opening three ends. Although Rupa Rani and Pinki mounted a spirited comeback by reducing the deficit, Tonga held on to win the set 6-4, forcing a tiebreak.
With the match on the line, the Indian pair produced a composed display. Rupa Rani delivered three accurate bowls to put India in a commanding position, while Pinki sealed the contest with a precise final delivery, giving India a 2-0 victory in the tiebreak.
The win strengthened India’s position in Section B, where both India and England have won all three of their matches. However, England remain at the top of the standings after winning one more set than the Indian pair.
Rupa Rani and Pinki will next face Namibia in their fourth sectional match on Sunday.
