Galle, August 20, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Veteran India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja reflected on his decade-plus international career after India’s latest Test victory in Galle, saying remaining at the highest level for such a long period requires sustained hard work and perseverance.
Jadeja played a key role in India’s 165-run victory over Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium, claiming four wickets as India took a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series.
Reflecting on his long association with the Indian team, Jadeja was shown a photograph from India’s 2017 Test win in Galle, when he had taken six wickets in the match.
“Yes, it’s from here. Barring the colour which has changed, the rest is the same. The last series we played here was in 2017. Obviously playing for India for 10 years means a lot because it takes a lot of effort to stay for a longer period of time,” Jadeja said in a video posted on the BCCI’s social media accounts on Thursday.
“I think I’m feeling blessed and thanks to God that I’m still playing for India and doing what I’ve been doing for India since so many years,” he added.
The latest victory also marked India’s 600th Test match. Young left-arm spinner Manav Suthar made the occasion memorable by claiming his first career 10-wicket haul.
Top-order batter Devdutt Padikkal also made a significant contribution, scoring 167 and 44 after coming in at No. 3 in place of the injured B Sai Sudharsan. Padikkal was named Player of the Match.
India’s victory improved their points percentage in the World Test Championship standings from 48.14 to 53.33, although they remained fifth in the table.
India and Sri Lanka will now travel to Colombo for the second Test, scheduled to begin on Sunday at the Sinhalese Sports Club.
