Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the vandalism of buses operated by the SGPC to facilitate pilgrims visiting Sri Harmandir Sahib and other gurdwaras.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday night. The SGPC-run buses are used to provide transport facilities to devotees arriving at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib from different parts of India and abroad and to facilitate their visits to various gurdwaras.
Describing the incident as “sad and unfortunate”, Dhami said damaging vehicles associated with Sri Darbar Sahib was an attempt to disrupt services being provided to the sangat.
A large number of devotees visit Sri Harmandir Sahib every day, and the SGPC-operated buses serve as an important means of facilitating their movement, he said.
Dhami said damaging vehicles belonging to the Guru Ghar not only reflected what he termed a “narrow mentality” but also amounted to an attempt to interfere with services for devotees and affect the SGPC’s service activities.
He said the SGPC was conducting its own inquiry into the incident.
Dhami also urged the police administration to treat the matter seriously, conduct a thorough investigation and take strict action against those responsible.
He said firm action was necessary to ensure that such incidents were not repeated in the future and that services being provided to devotees remained uninterrupted.
