Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and announced two youth-focused initiatives aimed at expanding career opportunities, promoting entrepreneurship and skill development, and encouraging young people to stay away from drugs.
Sahney said his interaction with the Prime Minister left him impressed by Modi’s vision for a developed India and his focus on the aspirations, challenges and future of the country’s youth.
Highlighting the Centre’s youth-focused initiatives, Sahney cited more than 1.64 crore youth who have received skill development support, over 2.47 lakh recognised startups, 54.41 lakh apprentices engaged under the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and more than 1.64 lakh internship opportunities created under the PM Internship Scheme.
Sahney said that, inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision, the World Punjabi Organisation and Sun Foundation India would launch two major initiatives for young people.
The first, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Youth Facilitation Centres, will be established in various cities of Punjab. The centres will provide career counselling, skill mapping, employment assistance, entrepreneurship support, artificial intelligence training and financial guidance to young people.
The second initiative, ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva Bharat – Cultural Evenings’, will take the message of a drug-free India to more than 5,000 youth across various cities in North India. Through cultural programmes, the initiative will encourage young people to take a pledge against drug abuse.
Sahney said the initiatives were intended to provide practical support to youth while promoting awareness, skills, entrepreneurship and a drug-free lifestyle.
He described his meeting with Prime Minister Modi as an opportunity to seek guidance and said the proposed programmes would seek to translate the broader vision for youth empowerment into grassroots initiatives.
