Delegation of National Defence College Students Visits SAS Nagar Village

As a part of study visit, a delegation of 15 officers including 6 foreign delegates of the rank of Brigadier/Jt Secy equivalent from the Military, Civil Services and Friendly Foreign Countries from National Defence College, visited Singhpura Village in SAS Nagar on Tuesday.

Divulging the details, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs Sonam Chaudhary said that the visit was aimed at examining the socio-political-economic, cultural and religious aspects, challenges of administration, governance and enforcing law and order at state level and down to village level.

She said that the delegation is on a five day state tour, being hosted by the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab in the above context. The rest of the parts of the state, the delegation have to visit in the coming days including Sri Anandpur Sahib and Amritsar.

The delegation included members from Indian Army, Indian Navy, Indian Air Force, Mangolian Army, Sri Lankan Army, Egypt Army, Republican of Korean Army, Oman Army and Russian Army besides tour coordinator from Indian Tourism Services.

The delegation members visited the water supply project and Sewerage treatment project already working in the village. An exhibition based on the products of rural self help groups was also showcased to them.

On their query of the role of women on Panchayati Raj Institution, they were apprised of the 50 percent participation of women on PRIs as Sarpanches and Panches. A PPT on the working of Panchayati Raj Institution was detailed to them by the Block Development and Panchayat Officer, Khara, Mehakmeet Singh. The delegation was also regaled by the students by reciting the poetry.

The delegation was briefed about the working of the Village Panchayats by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Mrs Sonam Chaudhary. A sapling to keep the memory of the visit of the delegation was also planted in the premises of Government Senior Secondary School, Singhpura. District Development and Panchayat Officer, Baljinder Singh Grewal and Gram Panchayat of the Village were also present in this occasion.
