Punjab Suspends Government School Teacher After Girl Students Allege Misconduct

Chandigarh, July 24, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab School Education Department on Friday suspended a Social Studies teacher posted at Government Middle School, Mothanwali village in Moga district after girl students accused him of inappropriate conduct and intimidation.

The action was taken on the directions of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains following a preliminary report submitted by the District Education Officer (Secondary), Moga.

According to the complaint, girl students of Classes VI and VIII alleged that the teacher subjected them to inappropriate physical contact and threatened to fail them if they disclosed his alleged conduct.

The department has ordered a time-bound inquiry into the allegations.

Reacting to the incident, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said the Punjab Government has a zero-tolerance policy towards any teacher who misuses authority to intimidate or harm children.

“The safety, dignity and mental well-being of every student in Punjab’s government schools are non-negotiable. A time-bound inquiry has been ordered and the strictest action will be taken if the charges are proved,” the minister said.

He reiterated that the School Education Department remains committed to ensuring a safe, secure and child-friendly environment in all government schools and said complaints relating to students’ safety would be acted upon promptly and firmly.

During the suspension period, the teacher will receive a subsistence allowance in accordance with applicable service rules. His headquarters have been fixed at the office of the District Education Officer (Secondary), Moga, where he will be required to mark his attendance daily until further orders.
