Security forces in Manipur have arrested four alleged militants belonging to different insurgent outfits and a woman accused of drug trafficking during separate operations carried out across the state over the past 24 hours, officials said on Friday.
According to police, the arrested militants are associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and United Kuki National Army (UKNA). They were apprehended in Imphal East, Bishnupur and Tengnoupal districts.
A 9 mm pistol, a magazine and 11 live rounds of ammunition of different calibres were recovered from the possession of the arrested KYKL member, identified as Mayanglambam Tomba Singh alias Lakpa (39). Police alleged that he was involved in an explosion at a petrol pump in Moirang.
The UKNA member arrested in the operation, identified as S. Palal Kuki alias Lalboi Singson, is alleged to be the outfit’s finance head and is accused of involvement in multiple incidents of firing and extortion.
In a separate anti-narcotics operation, police arrested a 30-year-old woman, identified as Leila, in Thoubal district. Officials said 389 grams of heroin packed in 10 soap cases were recovered from her possession.
Police also detained proclaimed offender T.H. Kaoni at the request of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Wanted in a case involving the alleged use of forged legal documents, he was later handed over to the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch in Imphal.
Meanwhile, security forces have intensified search operations and area domination exercises across vulnerable parts of the state. Police said 112 checkpoints have been set up across Manipur, while security escorts continue to be provided for vehicles transporting essential commodities along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
