T20I vice-captain Tilak Varma will lead India A in the ACC Men’s Rising Stars Asia Cup, scheduled to be held in Doha, Qatar, from November 19 to 29. Two-time IPL-winning captain Rajat Patidar has been named vice-captain of the 15-member squad selected by the men’s selection committee.
The squad includes Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Rinku Singh, Prabhsimran Singh and Kumar Kushagra, who will be the two wicketkeeping options. Harshit Rana, recovering from a rectus femoris strain sustained during a bowling simulation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence on September 7, has also been included.
Sooryavanshi, Suryansh Shedge and Harsh Dubey are the only players retained from last year’s India A squad. Tilak and Patidar replace Jitesh Sharma and Naman Dhir as captain and vice-captain, respectively. Several selected players will consequently miss a significant part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for their state teams.
India A are placed in Group B alongside UAE, Nepal and Pakistan A. They will begin their campaign against Nepal on November 20 at the West End Park International Stadium, face Pakistan A at the same venue on November 22, and take on UAE on November 24 at the University of Doha for Science and Technology.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals on November 26 and 27. The final is scheduled for November 29.
