Rajasthan’s administrative landscape has added another pair of biological sisters to its Indian Administrative Service (IAS) ranks, with Anju Rajpal promoted from the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS), joining her elder sister, senior IAS officer Manju Rajpal.

Anju Rajpal secured the fifth position among 16 officers from the state service promoted to the IAS, according to the list released by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). She currently serves as Joint Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), while Manju Rajpal holds the post of Principal Secretary.

The development brings the Rajpal sisters into the spotlight alongside Tina Dabi and her younger sister, Riya Dabi, who are both IAS officers of the Rajasthan cadre and entered the service through direct recruitment.

Tina Dabi secured All India Rank 1 in the 2015 Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), while Riya Dabi secured All India Rank 15 in the 2020 examination.

The two sister pairs represent different routes into the country’s premier administrative service. While the Dabi sisters entered through the civil services examination, Anju Rajpal’s elevation came through promotion from the state administrative service, following her experience in Rajasthan’s bureaucracy.

The DoPT promotion list included 16 RAS officers elevated to the IAS cadre. Among those named were Ummed Singh, Vivek Kumar, Mukesh Kumar Sharma, Dr Bhagchand Badhal, Aslam Sher Khan, Narendra Kumar Bansal, Poonam Prasad Sagar and Gopal Ram Birda.

Promotions from state administrative services provide experienced officers an opportunity to enter the IAS cadre, bringing their knowledge of state-level administration into the wider civil service.

Anju Rajpal’s promotion marks a significant professional milestone for the family and adds another example of sisters serving in senior administrative roles in Rajasthan. The careers of the Rajpal and Dabi sisters have also drawn attention to women’s participation and professional advancement in public administration.
