The Andhra Pradesh government has transferred IAS officer Vikas Marmat following a controversy over an alleged altercation with police personnel during a late-night inspection at a pub in Bengaluru.

Marmat, a 2019-batch IAS officer who was serving as Project Director of the Kuppam Area Development Authority (KADA), has been directed to report to the General Administration Department for further posting.

According to a government order issued by Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad, the transfer has taken effect immediately. The Chittoor District Collector and District Magistrate have been instructed to make interim arrangements for the post of Project Director, KADA.

The action follows a case registered by Bengaluru’s Cubbon Park police against Marmat and three other men over an alleged confrontation with police officers at a pub on Residency Road around 1.30 a.m. on October 10.

According to the police complaint, a team conducting checks at bars and restaurants asked customers to produce identification documents to verify their ages. Marmat and his companions allegedly argued with the officers, used abusive language, assaulted or threatened police personnel and obstructed them from performing their duties.

The complaint was filed by Police Inspector Arun Salunke. The other accused were identified as Abhay Uday Singh, Nitesh and Roshan.

The FIR invokes provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, relating to voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation, intentional insult, assault or criminal force against a public servant, and common intention.

A video purportedly showing the confrontation has circulated widely on social media, bringing further attention to the incident.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reportedly took serious note of the controversy and ordered action against the IAS officer.

Marmat’s posting at KADA placed him in charge of an authority responsible for development work in Kuppam, the Assembly constituency represented by Naidu in Chittoor district.

The allegations against Marmat and the other accused remain subject to the ongoing legal process.
