A suspected shooter linked to the Gogi gang was arrested following an exchange of fire with Delhi Police in the Jaroda Majra area of North Delhi on Thursday, officials said.
The accused, identified as Mohit, is suspected to be a close associate and shooter of gangster Deepak Boxer, police said.
According to preliminary information, the Narcotics and Special Task Force (STF) teams received intelligence about an armed shooter who had entered the area allegedly to carry out a criminal attack. Mohit had reportedly arrived on a motorcycle to pick up a friend and was allegedly preparing to execute a crime in Tajpur village.
Acting on the information, police teams laid a trap near Jaroda Majra Metro Station and began monitoring the area. When personnel attempted to intercept Mohit, he allegedly opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defence.
During the exchange, a bullet allegedly fired by Mohit struck a Head Constable of the Narcotics team in the chest. The official was wearing a bulletproof jacket, which prevented serious injury.
Police subsequently overpowered Mohit and took him into custody. An illegal pistol was recovered from his possession along with the motorcycle he was allegedly using to travel towards Tajpur village.
Investigators are examining the weapon and motorcycle as part of the case and are verifying the circumstances surrounding Mohit’s presence in the area and the alleged purpose of his visit to Tajpur village.
The accused is being questioned to establish further details about the alleged criminal plan and his possible links to other members of the gang.
