India maintained their unbeaten run in the men’s kabaddi competition at the 2026 Asian Games, defeating Chinese Taipei 37-21 in their final Group A match at the Tokai Citizens Gymnasium on Thursday.
The victory ensured India finished at the top of Group A and carried their winning momentum into the knockout stage, with the semi-finals scheduled for September 25.
India made an aggressive start, with Aslam Inamdar and Rahul Sethpal combining effectively to put pressure on Chinese Taipei’s raiders. Sethpal’s ankle holds proved particularly useful as India quickly gained control and inflicted an early All-Out.
Chinese Taipei fought back with thigh holds and Super Tackles to remain within reach, but India continued to add points through both raiding and defence. A second All-Out extended India’s advantage, with the team leading 23-11 at half-time.
After the break, Chinese Taipei attempted to close the gap through bonus points, while Devank Dalal and Ayan Lohchab kept India’s attack productive. Chung-mao Chang produced an important ankle hold for Chinese Taipei as they sought to revive their challenge, but India’s raiders responded by increasing the pressure.
India soon secured another All-Out and strengthened their grip on the contest. The Indian defence remained disciplined in the closing stages, limiting Chinese Taipei’s scoring opportunities as the raiders continued to add points.
India finished with three bonus points and six All-Out points, while Chinese Taipei registered nine bonus points and two Super Tackles.
India had already booked their semi-final place after defeating Bangladesh on Wednesday, a result that also assured the team of a medal. They will now compete in the semi-finals on September 25 with a place in the final at stake.
