India missed out on a medal in the men’s 10m air pistol team event at the Asian Games on Thursday, with Kamaljeet, Kedarling Uchaganve and Aakash Bharadwaj finishing fourth, while the Anantjeet Singh Naruka-Parinaaz Dhaliwal pair advanced to the mixed team skeet final.
The Indian trio combined for 1,727 points with 53 inner 10s, finishing behind Japan, which secured the bronze with 1,730 points. China and Indonesia both scored 1,743, with the inner-10 count separating the gold and silver medallists.
India also failed to secure a place in the individual men’s 10m air pistol final. Kamaljeet was the highest-placed Indian in ninth position with 580, while Bharadwaj finished 11th with 579 and Uchaganve was 35th with 568. Only the top eight shooters advanced to the final.
There was better news in skeet, with Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal qualifying for the mixed team final after finishing fourth in qualification with 138 points. Qatar topped the qualification standings, followed by South Korea and China.
Both Anantjeet and Parinaaz had already contributed to India’s medal haul in skeet. Anantjeet was part of the men’s team that won bronze, while Parinaaz featured in the women’s team that also secured a bronze medal.
India had earlier added several shooting medals at the Games. Elavenil Valarivan won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event and followed it with an individual silver. The men’s 10m air rifle team of Himanshu Dhillon, Rudrankksh Patil and Parth Mane also won silver, while Himanshu and Rudrankksh went on to claim silver and bronze, respectively, in the individual event.
In the women’s 10m air pistol event, Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker and Suruchi Singh narrowly missed a team medal, while double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker finished fifth in the individual final.
With the men’s 10m air pistol team event now concluded without an Indian medal, attention turns to the skeet mixed team final, where Anantjeet and Parinaaz will carry India’s medal hopes.
