Actor Sooraj Pancholi has said he received online abuse and death threats after his name was linked to the ongoing investigation into the death of Disha Salian, while maintaining that he has never met Salian or Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray.
In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram, Pancholi said there was “so much more to say” about what had happened and what had been said about him. He said he would address the questions surrounding the matter publicly when he gets an opportunity to speak to a journalist or interviewer willing to ask him difficult and uncomfortable questions directly.
Pancholi said he wanted such a conversation to be based on facts and conducted with an understanding of journalism and humanity. He added that he had remained silent about several matters for years but intended to answer questions openly when given the opportunity.
The actor also said his name had repeatedly been dragged into matters with which he claimed to have no connection. He said he had “lost years” of his life and was now attempting to rebuild his career and future.
“I have never met late Disha Salian or Aditya Thackeray in my life. Not once. Not directly. Not indirectly!” Pancholi said, while alleging that he had faced online abuse and death threats.
He further said he had no personal issues with anyone, “no political alliances” and “no political agenda”. Pancholi urged the investigating agencies to conduct a thorough and complete investigation without further delay.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered an FIR in September following a Bombay High Court order for a fresh probe into Salian’s 2020 death. The FIR mentions several individuals, including Pancholi, Aaditya Thackeray, Rhea Chakraborty, Dino Morea and others, whose roles are to be examined as part of the investigation. Importantly, reports citing the FIR state that those named have not been designated as accused at this stage.
Salian, who had worked as manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, died in June 2020. The CBI investigation is now examining the circumstances surrounding her death.
