Indian rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan won the bronze medal in the men’s double sculls at the Asian Games 2026, clocking 6:13.25, while Balraj Panwar narrowly missed the podium after finishing fourth in the men’s single sculls final at the Nagaragawa International Regatta Course on Thursday.
Satnam and Salman finished behind China’s Xudi Yi and Yide Nie, who won gold in 6:09.77, while Uzbekistan’s Pavel Sorin and Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov took silver with a time of 6:10.49.
The Indian pair were third at the 1,000-metre halfway mark, behind China and Uzbekistan. They moved into second place with 500 metres remaining but were overtaken during the closing stages and eventually finished third.
The medal is Satnam’s second at the Asian Games. He was part of India’s men’s quadruple sculls crew that won bronze at the 2023 Hangzhou Games. Satnam had also overcome a physical setback during an earlier race at the Games before returning to compete for India.
For Salman, who hails from Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh, the medal marks another milestone in a rapidly developing rowing career. He was inducted into the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), giving him access to elite training and sports science support. A year later, he won a medal at the Asian Rowing Cup, an achievement that also earned him promotion to the rank of Naib Subedar in the Indian Army.
Earlier, Balraj finished fourth in the men’s single sculls final with a time of 6:54.80, missing out on a medal after occupying a podium position for much of the race.
Balraj was second at the halfway mark behind China’s Zhiwei Deng. However, Uzbekistan’s Shakhboz Kholmurzaev remained close behind and moved ahead of the Indian with 500 metres to go.
Deng won gold in 6:38.98, Kholmurzaev claimed silver in 6:41.83, while Japan’s Tatsuya Sakurama took bronze in 6:46.78.
