Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has praised Shah Rukh Khan’s performance in the 2004 film ‘Swades’, describing his portrayal in the Ashutosh Gowariker directorial as exceptional.
Bachchan, who has returned as the host of the popular quiz show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’ with its 18th season, spoke about Shah Rukh during an episode featuring contestant Bablu Kumar Pandit.
A question related to the superstar prompted Bachchan to recall his performance in ‘Swades’ and share his admiration for the actor.
“Swades, unki jo picture thi mera aisa manna hai ki jo abhinay unhone Swades mein kiya na, woh ekdum uttam tha, aur kai baar milte hain jab main unse yahi bolta hoon,” Bachchan said.
He explained that Shah Rukh played distinctly different characters in ‘Swades’, ‘Chak De! India’ and ‘Veer-Zaara’.
“Swades mein Shah Rukh Khan ne ek NASA vaigyanik ki bhumika nibhayi thi, aur Chak De! India mein hockey coach the, aur Veer-Zaara mein IAF pilot,” he said.
Shah Rukh portrayed NASA scientist Mohan Bhargava in ‘Swades’, Kabir Khan, coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, in ‘Chak De! India’, and Squadron Leader Veer Pratap Singh in ‘Veer-Zaara’.
Released in 2004, ‘Swades’ was directed by Gowariker and starred Shah Rukh opposite debutant Gayatri Joshi. The film follows an NRI NASA scientist who returns to India and reconnects with his roots while confronting social challenges in his village.
The film received widespread critical acclaim for its storytelling and Shah Rukh’s restrained performance.
Meanwhile, Bachchan, 83, continues to remain active across multiple professional commitments. The veteran actor recently spoke about working for nearly 24 hours straight while juggling his film and television assignments, including ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’.
