Filmmaker Hansal Mehta has opened up about his upcoming series ‘Scam 2010’, describing it as a story of ambition, influence and the overconfidence that can accompany success.
Mehta said the series examines the rise of a major Indian business empire and the man behind it, while exploring what happens when faith in that empire begins to collapse.
“Scam 2010 is a story about ambition, influence and the arrogance that follows both. It looks at how one of India’s largest business empires was built on belief — and what happened when that belief ran out. It tells the fascinating story of the rise of an empire and the man who mistook it for invincibility,” Mehta said in a statement.
Actor Siddharth Bodke, who plays the lead, said the complexity of his character and the scale of the project attracted him to the series.
“What floored me was the complexity of the lead’s personality and the scale of the show. His passion, power, flaws, rise, and eventual downfall make him an incredibly fascinating character to portray,” Bodke said.
He added that working under Mehta’s direction and portraying such a layered character had been a thrilling experience.
Deepak Segal, Chief Content Officer, Applause Entertainment, said the success of ‘Scam 1992’ had placed greater responsibility on the franchise to meet audience expectations.
He said the success of the first series encouraged the creators to develop an anthology around stories in which ambition, money, power and human nature intersect.
“With ‘Scam 2010’, we are taking that ambition even further,” Segal said, adding that Mehta’s return as director was particularly significant because of his ability to turn complex real-life events into gripping human stories.
Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta, ‘Scam 2010’ is produced by Birla Studios and Applause Entertainment. The series is currently in production and will stream on Sony LIV.
