Pakistan under pressure at home, India remains alert to possible LoC provocation

New Delhi, August 12, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Indian intelligence agencies have warned of a possible Pakistani provocation along the Line of Control (LoC), amid continuing unrest in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and growing instability in Balochistan, officials said.

According to intelligence inputs, Islamabad could seek to divert domestic attention towards India as pressure mounts over the unrest in both regions. Officials said India is closely monitoring developments and remains prepared to respond to any security challenge.

An Intelligence Bureau official said the possibility of a major provocation along the LoC cannot be ruled out, given the pressures confronting Pakistan.

“Neither Islamabad nor India should rule out the possibility of a provocation along the Line of Control,” the official said.

Security agencies are also monitoring signs of increased terror activity in Jammu and Kashmir. The two recent attacks in the region have raised concerns that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) may be attempting to reactivate terror networks in the Valley.

Officials also pointed to Pakistan’s deployment of around 250 Chinese-made SH-15 155mm truck-mounted self-propelled howitzers in sectors facing India, including areas near Sialkot, Gujranwala and Jalalpur Jatan. The systems, with an estimated range of 30-40 km, are capable of rapid “shoot-and-scoot” operations.

Officials said Islamabad could be seeking an external confrontation to divert attention from allegations of atrocities and growing protests in PoK and Balochistan. They also suggested that Pakistan’s military leadership could be looking for a face-saving opportunity amid mounting domestic criticism.

The agencies are additionally keeping watch on attempts by the ISI to activate sleeper modules in India. Several suspected terror networks linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed have been busted in recent weeks, officials said.

Security agencies are also monitoring alleged Pakistani propaganda efforts aimed at spreading misinformation against India.

Officials said the combination of unrest inside Pakistan, attempts to revive terror networks and propaganda activity warranted heightened vigilance along the LoC and across the country.
