Actress Esha Deol has penned a heartfelt birthday wish for her mother and veteran star Hema Malini, affectionately calling her the “loveliest lady” as the Bollywood icon turned 78 on Friday.
Esha took to social media to celebrate the special occasion, sharing a stunning photograph of her mother alongside a loving message that reflected their close bond.
“My mamma Happy Birthday. Love you my loveliest lady,” Esha wrote in the caption.
Hema Malini, fondly known as Bollywood’s ‘Dream Girl’, has enjoyed an illustrious career spanning several decades, earning recognition for her performances in both comedy and drama. She made her acting debut with the 1963 Tamil film ‘Idhu Sathiyam’ and subsequently appeared in the lead role in ‘Sapno Ka Saudagar’ in 1968.
Over the years, she became one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated stars, delivering memorable performances in numerous films, many of them opposite her late husband, legendary actor Dharmendra. Her popularity also inspired the title of the 1977 film ‘Dream Girl’.
Hema married Dharmendra in 1980. The couple had two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol. Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89.
In recognition of her contribution to Indian cinema, Hema was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2000, one of the country’s highest civilian awards.
Esha made her Bollywood debut with ‘Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe’ in 2002 and went on to feature in films such as ‘Dhoom’, ‘Yuva’, ‘No Entry’, ‘Dus’ and ‘Cash’.
On the personal front, Esha married businessman Bharat Takhtani in 2012. The couple have two daughters, Radhya and Miraya, and announced their separation in 2024.
Esha was last seen in ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’, directed by Vikram Bhatt. Inspired by the life of Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of Indira IVF, the film also stars Anupam Kher, Ishwak Singh and Adah Sharma.
