Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary, describing his courage, sacrifice and commitment to the nation as an enduring source of inspiration, particularly for India’s youth.
In a post on X, Modi recalled Bhagat Singh’s contribution to the freedom movement and said his courage and readiness to sacrifice for the nation continue to inspire young Indians.
In a video message, the Prime Minister described Bhagat Singh as an inspirational figure for every Indian and highlighted his fearlessness. He recalled that before his execution, Bhagat Singh had written to the British authorities asking that he and his fellow revolutionaries be shot rather than hanged, calling it an example of his courage.
Modi also highlighted Bhagat Singh’s sensitivity towards the suffering of ordinary people, saying the revolutionary was deeply concerned about the hardships faced by others.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid tribute to Bhagat Singh on X, describing him as a brave son of the country.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also remembered Bhagat Singh and said his courage, sacrifice and martyrdom should remain an enduring source of inspiration.
In a message to the people of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi noted that Bhagat Singh laid down his life for the country at the age of 23. He said his birth anniversary should be an occasion to renew the resolve to place national duty above personal interests.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also called upon young people to draw inspiration from Bhagat Singh’s life to confront social evils such as casteism and addiction, while making knowledge, skills and action the foundation of their progress.
Bhagat Singh (1907-1931) was a prominent anti-colonial revolutionary and political thinker who played a significant role in India’s struggle against British rule. Executed at the age of 23 along with Rajguru and Sukhdev, he remains widely remembered as Shaheed-e-Azam and as a symbol of courage and sacrifice.
