New Delhi, September 28, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has destroyed more than 61 acres of illegally cultivated cannabis in remote, high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district as part of an ongoing crackdown on illicit drug cultivation.

The operation is being conducted jointly by the NCB, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Himachal Pradesh Police and the State Forest Department.

The NCB said its teams were working in difficult mountainous terrain and that every stage of the operation was being geo-tagged and documented through photographs and videography to ensure transparency and accountability.

“Teams are operating in difficult mountainous terrain, with the exercise being geo-tagged and documented through photographs and videography to ensure transparency. Legal action to follow against those responsible for illegal cultivation,” the agency said in a post on X.

Officials said legal proceedings would be initiated against those identified as responsible for cultivating the illegal crops.

The drive forms part of the broader strategy outlined in the Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–29), which sets out a roadmap towards a “Nasha Mukt Bharat” by focusing on curbing narcotics at their source.

A key component of the strategy is the coordinated eradication of illicit drug cultivation through collaboration between central and state enforcement agencies.

Illegal cannabis cultivation in the high-altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh has posed a longstanding challenge to enforcement agencies because of the region’s rugged terrain and difficult accessibility. The deployment of personnel from multiple agencies is aimed at reaching remote cultivation sites and disrupting the supply chain at its source.

The NCB is leading the operation while relying on the local knowledge and operational capabilities of the state police, ITBP and Forest Department personnel.

The drive is continuing, with authorities expected to cover additional areas in the coming days. Officials said cases arising from the operation would be pursued through due legal processes.
