Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to topple Iran’s government, eliminate Hamas and continue Israel’s campaign against Hezbollah, as the conflict in the region enters another prolonged phase.
Speaking at a ceremony honouring members of Israel’s Shin Bet domestic security agency, Netanyahu said Israel would pursue its stated objectives against its adversaries.
“We will eliminate Hamas, and first and foremost we will defeat the regime in Iran. We will topple it. It will fall,” Netanyahu said, according to Xinhua News Agency.
He also said Israel would continue pursuing Palestinians involved in the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack, warning that those responsible would not be immune from Israeli action.
Netanyahu had made similar remarks on September 6, saying that the Iranian regime was nearing its end and was “fighting for its life”. He made the comments during a Rosh Hashanah reception at a government meeting.
According to the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu said Israel had achieved what he described as significant military successes alongside the United States, including actions aimed at countering Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities and weakening what he called the Iranian axis.
“We are determined to defend ourselves; we are determined to strike our enemies,” Netanyahu said, warning that any Iranian attack on Israel would draw a severe response.
He also described Israel as the strongest power in the Middle East and issued a warning to its adversaries not to test the country.
“I say to our enemies: Do not try us. This people knows how to unite in moments of testing, and right now it is the strongest superpower in the Middle East,” Netanyahu said.
His latest remarks come amid continued Israeli military operations against Hamas and Hezbollah and ongoing tensions with Iran.
