The bodies of three civilians who had previously been reported missing were recovered in Balochistan’s Gwadar district, with a Baloch human rights organisation alleging that they were subjected to enforced disappearance, unlawful detention and extrajudicial killing by Pakistani security forces.
Paank, the human rights department of the Baloch National Movement (BNM), said the bodies of Hassan Rafiq, Ehsan Hassan and Nadil Baloch were found dumped in the Kuldan area of Dannuk.
According to Paank, Hassan Rafiq was released on bail from Turbat Jail on August 24 but was allegedly taken into custody by security forces shortly after his release outside the prison. The rights group said he remained missing until his body was recovered.
Ehsan Hassan, the son of political figure Muhammad Hassan Baloch, was allegedly taken along with his brother Balach Hassan during a late-night raid on their family home in the Jiwani area of Gwadar on January 22.
Paank said Nadil Baloch, a 20-year-old student from Panwan, was taken from his home during a security raid on April 19. The organisation said human-rights monitors had documented his disappearance and those of other Panwan residents, and alleged that Frontier Corps and military-intelligence personnel were involved.
Paank said the three bodies were found together, with slips bearing the victims’ names reportedly placed in their pockets.
The organisation described the alleged sequence of disappearance, detention and subsequent recovery of the bodies as a grave human-rights violation and called for an independent, impartial and transparent investigation.
It also urged that forensic evidence and detention records be preserved, those responsible be prosecuted before civilian courts, and the victims’ families receive truth, justice and reparations.
Paank further called on the United Nations and international human-rights mechanisms to press Pakistan to address enforced disappearances and alleged extrajudicial killings in Balochistan.
