Punjab Police conducted 526 raids across the state on Thursday as part of its ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, arresting 265 individuals and taking preventive action against another 196 people.
The statewide anti-gangster campaign entered its 240th day on September 17. Police teams from all districts, in coordination with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, carried out targeted operations at identified and mapped locations linked to associates of gangsters.
According to Punjab Police, three weapons were also recovered during the operations. With the latest arrests, the total number of people arrested under the campaign has reached 71,522 since its launch.
Police teams also arrested nine proclaimed offenders (POs) during Thursday’s operation.
The ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign was launched by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on January 20, 2026, with the stated objective of making Punjab free from gangster-related crime.
Punjab Police urged citizens to share information about wanted criminals, gangsters and other criminal activities. Information can be reported anonymously through the Anti-Gangster Helpline at 93946-93946.
Meanwhile, the police continued its parallel anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashian Virudh’, which entered its 565th day.
Police teams arrested 109 alleged drug smugglers during the day and recovered 465 grams of heroin, 180 kg of poppy husk, 492 intoxicant pills and Rs 12,200 in drug money from their possession.
With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers arrested under the campaign has reached 78,018 in 565 days.
As part of its de-addiction and rehabilitation efforts, Punjab Police also persuaded 19 people on Thursday to undergo treatment for drug dependence and rehabilitation.
