New Delhi, September 18, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped and murdered by four persons, including three juveniles, in north Delhi, with police saying her body was subsequently abandoned in an open field.

The incident came to light on September 13 when the girl’s severely decomposed body was found near Jaipal Rana’s field along Kushak Road in the Swaroop Nagar area. Police said the condition of the remains initially made it difficult to establish even the victim’s gender.

According to investigators, the girl was acquainted with the accused and had been travelling with them in a tempo. The group allegedly consumed alcohol during the journey, following which the girl was sexually assaulted. Police said she was subsequently stabbed to death and her body dumped in the field.

Investigators said stray dogs had damaged and consumed parts of the decomposed remains, with one of the victim’s hands found separated from the rest of the body.

Police said the girl’s family had not reported her missing. During questioning, relatives allegedly told investigators that she would occasionally leave home and return after spending several days away.

A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

With no apparent eyewitnesses and the suspects initially unidentified, police examined CCTV footage from the area. Investigators analysed recordings from more than 50 cameras installed around the suspected crime scene and along adjoining routes.

A tempo was noticed in the area around the relevant time, but its registration number could not initially be read clearly because of darkness and poor visibility. Police subsequently tracked its movements across multiple locations.

Following an overnight operation during September 15-16, investigators traced the vehicle and identified and questioned its driver. The probe subsequently led to the apprehension of four persons allegedly linked to the crime, including three juveniles aged 16 and 17.

The adult accused was identified as Shivam, alias Sudama, alias Chuchu, a resident of Khadda Colony, police said.

Police said two knives allegedly used in the crime, clothes purportedly worn by the accused and the tempo were recovered.

Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events, determine the individual roles of the apprehended persons and verify forensic and technical evidence, police said.
