New Delhi, September 17, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Abhishek Sharma produced one of the most explosive innings of his T20I career on Thursday, smashing 108 off 34 balls against Afghanistan in the third and final T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

The left-handed opener’s breathtaking assault rewrote several records and milestones. Here is a look at the major feats achieved during his innings:

Fastest T20I century by an Indian

Abhishek reached his century in just 30 balls, breaking Rohit Sharma’s previous Indian record of 35 balls, set against Sri Lanka in Indore in 2017.

Fastest century by a batter from a full-member nation

Abhishek also surpassed the previous mark of 33 balls, jointly held by Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza and New Zealand’s Finn Allen, to register the fastest T20I century by a batter representing a full-member nation.

Fastest century against a full-member nation

Finn Allen’s 33-ball century against South Africa in the 2026 T20 World Cup semi-final had been the fastest hundred against a full-member team. Abhishek bettered that mark with his 30-ball century against Afghanistan.

Most runs in the powerplay by an individual in men’s T20Is

Abhishek smashed 76 runs from 22 balls during the first six overs, setting a new record for the most runs by an individual in a men’s T20I powerplay.

He surpassed Portugal’s Kuldeep Gholiya, who had scored 74 off 25 balls against Malta in 2023.

Sixth T20I fifty in 20 balls or fewer

Abhishek reached his half-century in only 16 balls, extending his own record for the most T20I fifties scored in 20 balls or fewer. It was the sixth time he had achieved the feat.

Joint-most T20 centuries by an Indian

With his latest hundred, Abhishek took his tally to 10 centuries in T20 cricket, moving level with former India captain Virat Kohli for the most T20 hundreds by an Indian. He now needs one more century to become India’s leading century-maker in the format.

Equalling India’s record for sixes in a T20I series

Abhishek hit 11 sixes during his 108-run innings, taking his tally for the series to 22. That equals his own Indian record for the most sixes in a T20I series, which he set against England in 2025.

Abhishek’s 108 came from just 34 deliveries and included nine fours and 11 sixes. His innings powered India to a commanding total against Afghanistan in the series decider.
