Kankaria Lakefront in Ahmedabad was illuminated with around 1.25 lakh diyas on Thursday as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel joined celebrations marking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday and his 25 years of public service.
The event, held under Gujarat’s ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’, followed a Maha Aarti at the city’s Shri Jagannath Temple, where Shah and Patel sought the blessings of Lord Jagannath and offered prayers for the Prime Minister’s good health and long life. Prayers were also offered for the well-being of the people of Gujarat.
Later, Shah and Patel participated in the ‘Ek Deepak Aashirwad No’ programme at Kankaria Lakefront and performed Aarti of Maa Bharati. A large number of citizens joined the programme, holding diyas and taking part in the Aarti as the lakefront was lit up with approximately 1.25 lakh lamps.
The Jagannath Temple programme was attended by Minister of State for Urban Development Darshana Vaghela, Ahmedabad East MP Hasmukh Patel, Mayor Hitesh Barot, MLAs Dineshsinh Kushwaha, Kanchan Radadiya, Hasmukh Patel and Kaushik Jain, BJP Ahmedabad City President Prerak Shah and temple Mahant Dilipdasji, besides devotees and party workers.
Those present at the Kankaria programme included Vaghela, Barot, local MLAs, Prerak Shah, former MPs Harin Pathak and Kirit Solanki, Deputy Mayor Anju Shah, Standing Committee Chairman Kamlesh Patel, Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani, Ahmedabad Collector Bhavya Verma, corporators and municipal officials.
The celebrations were part of programmes organised across Gujarat under the ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ to mark Modi’s birthday and his 25 years in public service. More than 88 lakh diyas were planned across over 18,500 locations in Gujarat as part of the wider celebrations.
