The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday conducted simultaneous searches at four locations across Delhi, Bihar, Jharkhand and Karnataka as part of a money laundering investigation linked to the June petrol bomb attack on the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Ranchi.
The searches were carried out under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and stem from a case being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The NIA’s official records list the case as RC-01/2026/NIA/RNC and describe it as involving two unknown persons who hurled bombs towards the RSS office premises in Ranchi.
ED teams searched premises linked to suspects and examined documents, digital devices, financial records and other material as investigators sought to trace the suspected money trail connected to the attack.
The agency is probing whether illegal funding or money laundering channels were used to finance or facilitate the planning and execution of the attack, officials said.
The attack took place on the intervening night of June 16 and 17, when two petrol bombs were hurled at the RSS office in Ranchi’s Nivaranpur area. The NIA subsequently took over the investigation from Jharkhand Police and began examining the alleged conspiracy, the accused’s network and possible interstate links.
The initial investigation by Ranchi Police resulted in arrests in the case, after which the NIA expanded the probe. Investigators have also examined digital devices and other material seized during earlier searches.
Officials have been probing possible links of the accused with the network associated with Pakistan-based operative Shahzad Bhatti. These links remain part of the ongoing investigation and have not been conclusively established by a final judicial finding.
The NIA has also carried out searches in connection with the case. In a recent operation in Patna, investigators recovered cash and jewellery, according to reports, as the agency continued to examine the financial and logistical network surrounding the attack.
The ED’s latest searches have widened the financial aspect of the investigation, with the agency focusing on suspected funding sources and transactions that may have been connected to the attack.
The probe remains ongoing, and investigators are expected to examine the material seized during the searches to establish the nature of the suspected financial links.
