Music composer and singer Himesh Reshammiya is set to return to the judging panel of the popular singing reality show ‘Indian Idol’ for its upcoming 17th season.
Sources close to the development told IANS that Himesh will soon begin shooting for the new season, marking his return to the show after his previous stint as a judge.
Known for his distinctive musical style, Himesh has built a career spanning music composition, playback singing and television, and has been associated with the ‘Indian Idol’ franchise across multiple seasons.
He began his career as a music composer in the late 1990s, with Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya among his early film credits. He subsequently composed music for several successful Hindi films before gaining wider recognition as a playback singer.
His songs from films such as Tere Naam and Aashiq Banaya Aapne, among other popular Bollywood soundtracks, established him as a prominent musical force in the 2000s. His distinctive voice and musical identity further strengthened his popularity during the period.
Himesh also made a mark as a solo artiste with his 2006 album Aap Kaa Surroor, which emerged as one of the commercially successful Indian pop albums of its time.
‘Indian Idol’, meanwhile, is one of India’s longest-running singing reality shows and is based on the international Idol format. The programme premiered on Indian television in 2004 and has provided aspiring singers from across the country with a platform to showcase their talent.
Over the years, the show has contributed to the careers of several singers, including Abhijeet Sawant, Neha Kakkar and Monali Thakur, while becoming a prominent part of India’s television and music culture.
The 17th season of ‘Indian Idol’ will air on Sony Entertainment Television.
