New Delhi, September 11, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election is set for a direct contest between ABVP’s Yash Dabas and NSUI’s Vijay Shankar Meena for the post of president, with polling scheduled for September 18.

A total of 25 candidates were cleared for the presidential contest after scrutiny on Friday, the final day for withdrawal of nominations.

Voting will be held in two shifts, from 8.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on September 18, while counting and declaration of results will take place on September 19. Nearly 2.75 lakh students are eligible to vote.

The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), has fielded Ishu Maurya for vice-president, Riya Chhawadi for secretary and Lakshyaraj Singh for joint secretary.

Dabas, a resident of Kanjhawala in West Delhi, is a graduate of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College and an international-level tennis player.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, has nominated Veer Chhatrath for vice-president, Namrata Chaudhary for secretary and Gopal Chaudhary for joint secretary.

Following scrutiny, 20 candidates were approved for the vice-president’s post, while 24 will contest for secretary and 19 for joint secretary.

The 2026 DUSU election comes against the backdrop of several issues that have drawn student attention, including the Gen Z protest at Jantar Mantar in July over alleged examination irregularities and the collapse of a PG building in Satya Niketan, which highlighted concerns over the shortage of hostel accommodation at Delhi University.

Although DUSU elections have traditionally been dominated by contests between ABVP and NSUI, student organisations linked to the Aam Aadmi Party and Left also remain in the fray.

The AAP’s student wing, Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), has fielded Ashmit Kumar Panwar for president and Pankaj Kumar for secretary.

The Left-backed All India Students’ Association (AISA) has named Ananya as its presidential candidate.
