Three people were killed after a speeding car lost control and crashed into a road divider on the Mokama-Bakhtiyarpur four-lane highway in Bihar on Tuesday, police said.
The car was travelling from Patna towards Khagaria when the accident occurred. Preliminary investigation suggests that excessive speed caused the driver to lose control, resulting in the vehicle crashing into the divider. The impact trapped all three occupants inside the damaged car.
Hearing the crash, nearby villagers and passersby rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts. As the doors were jammed, locals arranged a cutter to open the damaged section and pull the occupants out.
A team from Mokama police station reached the site after being alerted and, with the help of residents, shifted the three injured occupants to the Mokama Trauma Centre. However, doctors declared all three dead on arrival.
The deceased were identified as Pawan Gupta, Sulochana Devi and the driver, Md Salman, all residents of Khagaria. Police took custody of the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examinations. Their families were informed after their identities were confirmed.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and whether any other factors contributed to the accident. The deaths have left the victims’ families in deep grief, with mourning reported in the area.
Another Road Accident in West Champaran
In a separate accident in West Champaran district, two women were injured after a passenger bus lost control and overturned near Tilanghi Bahuarwa village in Mainatand block on Tuesday morning.
The bus was travelling from Pidadi to Bettiah with several passengers when it overturned near the village, triggering panic among those on board. Local residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the passengers.
Police from Purushottampur station also reached the spot and initiated relief and rescue operations. The injured were identified as 60-year-old Phulpati Devi, wife of Ramanand Sah of Sakraul village under Inarwa police station, and 48-year-old Salma Nisha, wife of Shakirjan Miyan of Purainiya village.
