Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has paid tribute to feminist icon and trailblazer Gloria Steinem, remembering her enduring influence and the path she paved for generations of women.
Priyanka took to Instagram to share a black-and-white video of Steinem, accompanied by the message: “Thank you for lighting the way. Rest in Glory, Gloria Steinem.”
Steinem, a prominent figure in the US feminist movement since the late 1960s, died peacefully at the age of 92 at her home in New York City, surrounded by loved ones, according to a statement shared by her foundation.
A journalist by profession, Steinem emerged as one of the nationally recognised leaders of second-wave feminism in the United States during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Through her activism and writing, she became a defining voice in the movement and an influential advocate for women’s rights.
Meanwhile, Priyanka has several major international and Indian projects lined up.
She recently announced her next film alongside Hollywood star Russell Crowe. According to the synopsis shared by the actress, the story follows a grieving UN translator in the Congo who is drawn into a covert mission to recover a downed aircraft that officially does not exist. The operation takes a dangerous turn as the team moves through militia-controlled territory.
The project marks Priyanka’s first collaboration with Crowe, who has won an Academy Award, a BAFTA Award and two Golden Globe Awards.
Priyanka will also star in filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s upcoming film ‘Varanasi’, alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Mahesh Babu reportedly plays a dual role in the film.
The film follows the adventures of Rudhra against the backdrop of an impending asteroid threat to the city of Varanasi, with its narrative unfolding across multiple timelines.
