Four people were killed after a truck crossed the divider and crashed into a car on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Greater Noida, police said on Monday.
The accident took place on Sunday night in the Jewar police station area when a Rajasthan-registered truck travelling from Noida towards Agra reportedly lost control at high speed. The vehicle broke through the expressway divider and railing before entering the opposite carriageway, where it collided with a car.
The impact severely damaged the car and left all four occupants critically injured. Following the crash, people at the spot alerted the police.
Jewar police reached the location, rescued the injured and rushed them to a hospital. However, doctors declared all four dead during treatment.
Police inspected the accident site and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the collision. Preliminary findings indicate that the truck may have gone out of control, although other possible factors are also being examined.
The truck driver has been taken into custody and further legal action is underway.
Police said traffic movement on the Yamuna Expressway has since returned to normal. Officials are also working to establish the identities of the deceased and gather further details about the accident.
