Veteran actor Shakti Kapoor once found himself in an unusual situation when the producer of one of his films accidentally took his brother to the shooting location, mistaking him for the actor.
Recounting the incident during an appearance on The Kapil Sharma Show, Shakti Kapoor said the episode happened while he was shooting for the 1981 film Khuda Kasam, backed by producer Baldev Pushkarna.
According to the actor, someone had advised him not to step out for the shoot on a particular day because of an astronomical event. Taking the advice seriously, Shakti decided to stay inside his room.
At the time, his brother was visiting him in Bombay and was relaxing on the sofa in the hall. When Pushkarna arrived to take Shakti to the shoot, he apparently mistook his brother for the actor because the two looked very similar.
Without realising the mistake, the producer reportedly pulled Shakti’s brother up from the sofa and asked him to get ready for the shoot.
“Come, come for the shoot. You are sitting here and watching TV, come,” Pushkarna told him, according to Shakti’s recollection.
Confused by the situation, Shakti’s brother repeatedly tried to clarify that he was not the actor.
“I am not him, I am not him. I am his brother,” he said.
Khuda Kasam, released in 1981, was directed by Lekh Tandon and featured Vinod Khanna and Tina Munim in the lead roles. The cast also included Pran, Ajit, Madan Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Nazneen and Kamini Kaushal in important roles. Dharmendra made a special appearance in the film.
The music was composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal, while Jehangir Choudhary handled cinematography and Prabhakar Supare was the editor.
Shakti Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Khel Khilari Ka in 1977 and went on to appear in more than 700 films during a career spanning over four decades.
Among his best-known films are Qurbani (1980), Hero (1983), Himmatwala (1983), Raja Babu (1994), Andaz Apna Apna (1994), Coolie No. 1 (1995) and Judwaa (1997).
