A motorcyclist was killed and another person injured after a cement-laden truck lost control and overturned in the Mohabbewala area of Dehradun on Sunday, officials said.
According to officials, the truck was travelling from Asharodi towards Dehradun when its driver lost control near the Mohabbewala slope. The vehicle overturned and struck a motorcyclist passing through the area.
The motorcyclist died on the spot, while another person sustained injuries.
Police teams from Patel Nagar Kotwali and Clement Town reached the site after receiving information about the accident. Rescue and relief operations were underway, with a crane being used to remove the overturned truck from the road.
The accident caused traffic congestion on the main highway, and police were managing traffic while conducting an investigation into the incident.
Uttarakhand has reportedly recorded a high number of road accident fatalities this year. According to the data cited in reports, 775 people died in road accidents in the state during the first seven months of 2026, compared with 795 deaths during the same period in 2025.
The source also cited 1,285 road accident deaths recorded in Uttarakhand during the whole of 2025, indicating that the state continues to face a serious road safety challenge.
Among Uttarakhand’s 13 districts, Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital and Haridwar have reportedly recorded the highest number of road accidents and fatalities. The issue is considered particularly challenging in the Himalayan state because of its difficult terrain.
