Three Baloch students allegedly forcibly disappeared in Karachi

At least three students from Balochistan were allegedly forcibly disappeared in Karachi after being detained by Pakistani security forces, according to the Baloch Voice for Justice (BVJ). The rights group said the incident took place on August 23.

The students were identified as Abdul Qadeer, Zubair Ahmed and Saif Uddin, all residents of Balochistan. Reports carried by regional media said Abdul Qadeer and Zubair Ahmed are from Siahozai in Basima, while Saif Uddin is from Killi Sarawan in Kharan.

The BVJ condemned the alleged disappearances, saying targeting students seeking education amounted to a violation of fundamental rights and called for their immediate and safe release.

The allegations come amid broader concerns raised by Baloch rights groups over reported raids, arbitrary detentions and enforced disappearances involving Baloch communities in Karachi. The Baloch Yakjehti Committee has alleged that security operations in Baloch neighbourhoods were aimed at creating fear and suppressing political activity.

Separately, the BVJ condemned the registration of an FIR against Balochistan Assembly member Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch. The Balochistan Post reported that the FIR was registered after the Gwadar legislator raised allegations in a video concerning the alleged humiliation and violation of the privacy of women at a military checkpoint.

The rights group said the case against an elected representative who raised such allegations raised concerns over freedom of expression, accountability and democratic representation.

Hidayat ur Rehman is the elected member for PB-24 Gwadar in the Balochistan Assembly.

The latest allegations concerning the three students have not been independently verified, and no detailed response from Pakistani security authorities regarding their reported detention and whereabouts was available in the cited reports. Separately, Amnesty International has documented cases involving the enforced disappearance of Baloch activists and students, including the case of student leader Jiand Baloch, who was released in August after 11 days in custody.
