Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday handed over appointment letters to 1,368 newly recruited teachers at a programme held at Bharat Mandapam, reaffirming the government’s focus on strengthening education in the national capital.
The appointments include 1,015 Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs), 236 Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) and 117 music teachers.
Gupta said the programme was not merely about issuing appointment letters but about reinforcing the responsibility of providing quality education and better opportunities to children studying in Delhi government schools.
“Delhi is a city of dreams for people who have come from different parts of the country, and every child studying in a Delhi government school is a child of Delhi,” she said.
The Chief Minister said ensuring quality education, healthcare and a bright future for every child remained a key priority of her government. She added that the induction of new teachers would provide students with stronger academic support, guidance and new learning opportunities.
The recruitment drive is also aimed at filling vacant teaching positions and strengthening the overall teaching capacity of government schools in Delhi.
Education Minister Ashish Sood said the appointment of 1,368 teachers was more than an increase in the number of teachers, describing it as an important investment in the future of thousands of students.
“Our goal is clear: wherever a teacher is needed, a teacher should be available; wherever a subject expert is required, there should be a specialist teacher; and every child in Delhi should have an equal opportunity to receive quality education,” Sood said.
Senior officials of the Directorate of Education and other dignitaries attended the programme.
