A police constable allegedly died by suicide at a police station in Hyderabad on Wednesday, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
The deceased, identified as J. Sai Kumar, was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside the restroom of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) office at LB Nagar Police Station under the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate.
According to police, the incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. while Sai Kumar was on night duty. A 2024-batch constable, he was attached to the ACP office for e-COPS duty.
Police rushed him to a private hospital after finding him unconscious, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Sai Kumar was reportedly staying with friends in a room at Karmanghat. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances and possible reasons behind his death.
The body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, Sai Kumar’s family members staged a protest outside LB Nagar Police Station, expressing anger over the police allegedly not informing them before the body was shifted to the hospital. They also demanded that his mobile phone be handed over to the family.
Police have registered a case and begun further investigation, saying the exact circumstances leading to the constable’s death will be established during the probe.
The incident is the second such case involving a police constable in Hyderabad in the past three weeks.
On July 23, a constable allegedly shot himself with his service firearm at the Telangana Police Headquarters in Lakdikapul. The constable, identified as Swamy, 40, was suspected to have taken the extreme step over family-related issues.
Swamy had reportedly left a suicide note in which he asked people not to say anything against his wife and children. He described them as good people and said he would continue to look after them even after his death.
