Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Registrations Cross 5 Lakh Within Seven Days: CM Rekha Gupta

New Delhi, August 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

Registrations under the Delhi government’s Delhi Lakshmi Yojana crossed the five-lakh mark on Saturday, within a week of the scheme’s launch, reflecting a strong response from women across the capital, an official said.

The scheme’s portal had recorded 4.87 lakh registrations and 1.99 lakh submitted applications by 8 p.m. on Friday. Registrations surged overnight and during the early hours of Saturday, taking the total number of registrations beyond five lakh by the afternoon, according to an official statement.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the Delhi Cabinet had initially approved the initiative as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana before renaming it the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana to reflect its wider focus on women’s dignity, prosperity and economic empowerment.

Gupta said the scheme differs from conventional cash assistance programmes by allowing beneficiaries to select one of two financial options according to their needs.

Under the first option, Rs 1,000 will be credited every month to a Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) wallet for day-to-day expenses, while the remaining Rs 1,500 will be deposited into a recurring or fixed deposit account.

Under the second option, the entire monthly amount of Rs 2,500 will be deposited into an RD/FD account, enabling beneficiaries to build savings over time along with interest.

“This way, the scheme seeks to provide immediate financial assistance as well as long-term financial security,” Gupta said.

She added that a digital negative list would be implemented for the CBDC wallet to ensure that the assistance is used for essential household requirements.

According to the Chief Minister, the wallet balance cannot be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco, narcotic substances, lottery tickets, or for gambling and betting. It will also exclude any other goods and services prohibited by the government from time to time.

Gupta said the restrictions were intended to ensure that the financial assistance was used for the welfare of beneficiaries and their families.
