The Centre on Friday notified the appointment of 30 advocates and judicial officers as judges and additional judges in the Madras, Calcutta, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh High Courts, following the approval of the President in consultation with the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
Announcing the appointments in a post on X, Union Minister for Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal said the appointments had been made under the powers conferred by the Constitution after consultation with the CJI.
The appointments follow recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium for the elevation of the advocates and judicial officers to the respective High Courts.
Madras High Court
Five advocates have been appointed as judges of the Madras High Court:
- Govindarajan Krishnaswamy
- Rajnish Pathiyil
- Ramesh Natarajan
- G.K. Muthukumaar
- Ramakrishnan Rajesh Vivekananthan
In addition, ten persons have been appointed as additional judges of the court:
Advocates: Raveekumar Sankaranarayanan, Dilip Kumar Nagarajan and Ellappan Manoharan.
Judicial Officers: Dr P. Murugan, M.D. Sumathi, S. Alli, C. Thirumagal, Shanmugam Karthikeyan, Murugesan Baluchamy and N. Gunasekaran.
Calcutta High Court
Eight advocates have been appointed as additional judges:
- Aryak Dutt
- Atarup Banerjee
- Sandip Kumar De
- Partha Pratim Roy
- Sudip Deb
- Anuj Singh
- Arjun Ray Mukherjee
- Rishad Medora
Karnataka High Court
Six advocates have been appointed as additional judges:
- Raghavendra Seetharam Srivatsa
- Hema Kulkarni
- Subramanya Rangarao
- Vivekananda Thadagavadi Prakash
- Pramod Bakkeswara
- Shanthi Bhushan Hombe Gowda
Madhya Pradesh High Court
Advocate Amit Lahoti has been appointed as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The appointments will take effect from the dates the respective appointees assume charge of their offices.
