The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jharkhand has summoned all three serving members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) for questioning in connection with the alleged irregularities in the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination.
The CID issued notices on Friday to Dr Ajita Bhattacharya, Dr Anima Hansda and Dr Jamal Ahmad, asking them to appear for questioning from Monday. The agency is expected to seek details regarding decisions taken during the examination process and the sequence of events surrounding the conduct of the recruitment examination.
The three members were appointed to the commission on September 2, 2021, after their appointments were approved by the state Cabinet in August that year.
The move comes as the CID intensifies its probe into alleged irregularities in the examination process. The investigating agency has already questioned former JPSC Chairman and former Chief Secretary L. Khiangte for over 30 hours across four rounds of interrogation.
Khiangte resigned as JPSC Chairman on July 22, shortly after the CID conducted a raid at the commission’s office. The agency later carried out searches at his official residence as part of the investigation.
So far, the CID has arrested 19 people in connection with the alleged examination scam. Among those arrested is Abhay Tiwari, Marketing Manager of TSR Data Processing Pvt Ltd, the outsourcing agency responsible for conducting the examination.
Investigators have identified Tiwari as a key accused and are probing his alleged links with other individuals connected to the case. Several officials of the company and other persons associated with the examination process have also been arrested.
The CID is examining the entire recruitment process to determine the stage at which alleged irregularities occurred and identify all those involved in the suspected malpractice.
With the questioning of the serving JPSC members, the investigation has expanded further as the agency attempts to establish the complete chain of events and accountability in the alleged examination irregularities.
