Prayagraj, August 8, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi will participate in the Congress’ ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ programme at KP Ground in Prayagraj on Saturday, where he is scheduled to interact with a large gathering of students.
The programme was briefly caught in a controversy after the KP Trust withdrew permission for the event. The permission was subsequently restored, allowing the Congress to proceed with the programme subject to certain conditions.
According to the Congress, Gandhi will leave Delhi on a special flight at 2 p.m. and reach Prayagraj Airport around 3:30 p.m. He is scheduled to visit Anand Bhavan before proceeding to KP Ground, where the student interaction will take place from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
After the programme, Gandhi will leave for the airport and is expected to return to Delhi on a special flight at around 9:30 p.m.
The event has triggered a political dispute, with the Congress accusing the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government of attempting to prevent the programme. The party has maintained that it would hold the initiative despite the temporary withdrawal of permission.
At a joint press conference in New Delhi, Uttar Pradesh Congress in-charge Rajendra Pal Gautam and MPs Kishori Lal Sharma, Tanuj Punia and Imran Masood alleged that the BJP was unsettled by Gandhi’s efforts to raise issues concerning students and young people.
Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai also reiterated in Prayagraj that the party would go ahead with the programme. Punia alleged that the state government was seeking to stop the event because of concerns over Gandhi’s growing support among the youth.
The Congress has said it will continue to raise issues affecting students and young people through its ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ initiative.
