The East District Police have apprehended seven African nationals, including five Nigerians and two Ghanaians, for allegedly overstaying in Delhi after the expiry of their visas or immigration permissions, officials said on Saturday.
The action was carried out by teams of the Special Staff and Anti-Narcotics Squad (ANS) under Pandav Nagar police station as part of a special drive targeting foreign nationals suspected of violating immigration rules.
Police said the seven individuals were taken through the required documentation and verification process before being produced before the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Delhi.
The FRRO subsequently issued Restriction Orders against all seven under the relevant provisions of the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Their movement has been restricted to Sewa Sadan in Lampur, Narela, pending further legal proceedings. Deportation proceedings have also been initiated in coordination with the FRRO.
The Special Staff team, led by Inspector Jitendra Malik and supervised by ACP (Operations) Pawan Kumar, apprehended four foreign nationals from the Pandav Nagar area on August 4. They were identified as Nigerian nationals Osita Nkemen, 54, and Ngota Cynthia, 38, along with Ghanaian nationals James, 25, and Livy Otughana, 27.
Police said Cynthia was also found to be an accused in an earlier case registered by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Bengaluru under Section 22 of the NDPS Act. FIR No. 48/2021 is currently pending before a court.
Separately, the ANS team led by Inspector Arun Kumar conducted verification drives in Smaspur Village, Patparganj, and detained three Nigerian nationals — Kelechi Cornelius, 32, Okechukwu Solomon, 36, and Chukwudi Alison, 43.
According to police, Cornelius and Solomon were already listed among foreign nationals suspected of overstaying.
Police said the operation formed part of an intelligence-based campaign involving field enquiries and verification of immigration records. The East District Police said such drives would continue in coordination with the FRRO and other agencies to enforce immigration laws.
